The pretty tourist town of Killarney in County Kerry proved to be an irresistible choice for the Irish Open organisers when choosing next year’s venue. With its world famous scenery, lively town centre and plentiful accommodation, Killarney had all the ingredients to be the perfect venue. It’s fitting really, that Killarney is chosen for this major golfing event, as it has a long association with the sport – golf has been played here since 1891! In fact, Killarney boast Ireland’s oldest golf course and it’s no other than Killarney Golf & Fishing Club – the venue of the Irish Open 2010.


The Irish Open is a major highlight on the sporting calendar in Ireland and it is sure to draw some of the world’s best golfers. The Killeen Course is a championship course with a world class design. It is well used of being in the spot light as it hosted the Irish Open in ‘91 and ‘92 with Nick Faldo winning the competition on both occasions. It was also the venue for the Curtis Cup in 1996. This 18 hole parkland course really tests the accuracy of long hitters as there’s numerous water hazards. The course has some breathtaking vistas with spectacular lake views from the first 4 holes.
